Construction and Repair Projects

Main work begins in the Pearl. Water service is abandoned in Sandy. Water main work occurs.

The Portland Water Bureau works on a variety of construction and repair projects throughout

the city. See a crew in your neighborhood? They could be doing anything from installing new

water service lines, to flushing out your existing line to ensure that your water is cold, clean,

cheap and constant!

You'll find that some of our projects are listed as CIP Projects. What does that mean, anyway?

To ensure a sufficient, high quality water supply as well as efficient services, the Portland Water Bureau operates a Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The CIP focuses on

  • regulations and water system rehabilitation
  • replacement and response to development in the city

The CIP contains:

  • specific projects to be constructed in any given year
  • design and construction methods
  • project phasing
  • sequencing; and implementation schedule

CIP projects are funded through the Water Construction Fund. Three major resources finance this fund: water sales, proceeds from revenue bond sales, and construction fund revenue (direct reimbursements, system development charges, and interest earnings).
