Bull Run Source Water Assessment

The Bull Run watershed is an unfiltered source that produces some of the highest raw water quality of surface water sources in the U.S. Source water quality is routinely monitored at the mouth of the four major tributaries that flow into the reservoirs; the reservoirs and Bull Run Lake; and at the raw water intake. Because the watershed is closed to public entry and has stringent controls on logging, there are no land-use related sources of chemical or microbial contamination.

The Bull Run supply complies with all state and federal regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act, including EPA’s Surface Water Treatment Rule filtration-avoidance criteria

The most recent results for water quality tests of Bull Run source water can be found in the most recent Triannual Water Quality Analysis and annual Water Quality Reports. The 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments required that Source Water Assessments be prepared for all public water systems. The assessments must delineate the boundaries of the source area and identify the origin of contaminants regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act . The PortlandWater Bureau prepared the Bull Run Source Water Assessment in June, 2003.
