Texas resident Dan Becker has such admiration and love for his hometown of Union, New Jersey's 212-foot-tall gray water tower, he started a blog dedicated to it.
Evidently, many people in the area think the tower looks like a giant golf tee. They call it the water sphere. It was built in 1964 and is officially known as the "World's Tallest Water Sphere."
Becker named his blog (quite appropriately) "The World's Tallest Water Sphere Blog." It is devoted to stories, legends, photos and videos of the water sphere. He also runs a small museum containing his collection of miniature models of the tower.
In an interview with The Star-Ledger, he said, "The more you talk with the locals, the more you realize that many people have a story related to the tower. There are many childhood expeditions around the tower."
Now that takes obsession to a whole new level.
