If you could save a life for just $1, you'd do it right?
The Tap Water Project is a nationwide effort aimed at bringing forth the plight of millions of people in the world who are not lucky enough to have a sanitary source of drinking water. In fact, the WHO says that poor water quality is responsible for 1.8 million deaths per year.
In coordination with the Tap Water Project, beginning Sunday, March 16 through Saturday, March 22, many Portland restaurants will invite their customers to donate a minimum of $1 for the tap water they would normally get for free. For every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days. The money will be donated through UNICEF.
The project started in New York City last year and it was incredibly successful. Over 300 restaurants participated, over $100,000 was raised and 4 million children were provided with clean water.
The week of March 16-March 22 corresponds with World Water Day, which is March 22. World Water Day is a day in which the world is invited to work on the conservation and development of water resources.
