The Mystery of the Missing Hazelwood Plants - Printable Version - September 23, 2007 - 0 Comments

Plants at the Hazelwood HydroPark water conservation gardenAs Commissioner Leonard reminded us all last month, acts of vandalism to Water Bureau properties cost everyone… and stealing plants is no exception. The Hazelwood HydroPark in NE Portland was outfitted with a beautiful Water Conservation Garden this summer.

The on-site East Portland Neighborhood Office, Water Bureau employees, surrounding neighbors and the general public all benefit from this garden. It is not only filled with a diverse group of water conservative plant species, but it is also meant to be educational. However, it has come to our attention that someone is stealing plants from this garden on two separate occasions now, within the last week, both Water Bureau and EPNO employees have noticed holes left in the ground where these plants used to live.

Better watch out, plant thief - there’s a good chance you could find your picture on the Water Bureau blog if we catch you. Water Bureau security has been alerted, and we hope to engage the support of the surrounding community by blogging about this - all eyes on you…
