April 22, 2006 is the 36th anniversary of Earth Day. This week the Water Bureau’s blog looking forward to this celebration to share information about the bureau’s work related to conservation and sustainability. Look forward to information about the Water Bureau’s leadership in the charge to run 99% biodiesel through its in-town diesel-powered vehicles. We’ll provide information about water conservation, wind energy, landscaping water audits and more. Join us.
Conservation and sustainability are now so much a part of our culture that I for one don’t even think about it as I sort my recyclables from my trash and put them on the street in their yellow bins. When I can, I walk, ride my bike or ride my scooter on errands rather than fire up the van if it isn’t necessary. I suspect that I could do a lot better – and when I have the opportunity, I like to think I take it and act responsibly.
The Water Bureau has a culture of environmental awareness. We take seriously our role as stewards of our resources and believe in the concepts of conservation and sustainability.
We are active participants and partners in community events such as the community Earth Day celebration organized by the City Repair Project on Saturday April 22nd at Sellwood Park. Every year, the bureau makes progress in better using its resources, conserving non-renewable resources and promoting and implementing sustainable practices.
The challenge to be green means that we as individuals and as an organization must continue to grab opportunities that present themselves to be as environmentally responsible as possible.
