The Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030

THE PUBLIC COMMENT DRAFT IS AVAILABLE.  However, the public comment period is closed.

The draft Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030 provides a blueprint for making Portland a world-class bicycling city. Portland's first Bicycle Master Plan was adopted in 1996. It has helped steer Portland toward numerous awards and accolades, including the Platinum status for Bicycle Friendly Cities from the League of American Bicyclists in April 2008.

More than a dozen years later we are now updating the original plan to address the tremendous growth in bicycling in Portland. Click here for more information and the latest timeline. The draft Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030 has been developed with guidance from a distinguished Steering Committee and a broad Technical Advisory Committee.  It is expected to be completed in the fall of 2009.

Since the 1996 Bicycle Master Plan was adopted, Portland has more than doubled its bikeway network, to 300+ miles.  We've added thousands of bicycle parking spaces.  There are almost daily bike rides, events, and activities.  We have a successful Safe Routes to School program, and a burgeoning bicycle industry. And we can be proud of how many more people are bicycling these days, with more than 16,000 daily riders crossing our downtown bridges in 2008.  That's more than six times as many as in 1991!

Now it is time for the next generation of bicycle improvements.  Help us create a world-class bicycling city!
