The Safe, Sound and Green Streets Proposal was conceived to address longstanding transportation safety and maintenance issues in the City of Portland.  The proposal will achieve the following...

Make your streets safer by:

•   Providing safety fixes at high-crash intersections

•   Building sidewalks on arterial streets that currently lack them

•   Constructing pedestrian islands that make crossing the street to schools, parks and stores in your neighborhood easier and safer

Improve the quality of your streets by:

•   Repairing most of the roads currently in poor condition on Portland's busiest streets

Improve our bridges (none of which cross the Willamette River) by:

•   Maintaining the bridges and eliminating weight restrictions on freight and emergency routes

Conserve our environment by:

•   Reducing congestion on Portland's busiest roads by improving signal timing and operations

•   Promote incentives for reducing the number of drive alone trips taken within the city

Improve the economy:

•   This proposal received widespread support.

•   Our business communities endorsed this proposal recognizing that our State's economy is at risk because of our failure to invest in our infrastructure.

•   Our neighborhoods want safety improvements so that seniors can access transit and children can safely walk or bike to school.

•   Several of Portland's newspapers endorsed the Safe, Sound and Green Streets Proposal
