As the weather gets nicer and we start opening our windows, we all must do our part to help educate parents and caregivers on how they can keep children from falling out of windows.
Last week brought a special message from Chief Erin Janssens of Portland Fire & Rescue about National Window Safety Week. This week we'd like to echo the Chief's message and highlight a great book, a great video, and a great store to get the safety products you need for your family.
The moving video comes to us from one of our very own Portland firefighters and his wife regarding the fall their young son took from their second story window. We thank them for opening up and sharing their stories so that other parents do not have to go through what they have gone through. They also wrote a book for children and families called If Kids Could Float: A Window Fall Prevention Story which you can find in print or as eBook here and here.
Legacy Emanuel Hospital's Safety Center also has a safety store that "offers a variety of below-retail cost-safety products, hands-on practice and one-on-one education."
More info on all of this can also be found at the Stop at 4 Campaign website.
