You hold the keys to the city.
It takes a village, it’s said, to raise a child. Well, it takes an entire community to plan for its future. What we do today will affect not only our own lives but our children’s and grandchildren’s as well. It will determine the quality of our lives and that of our environment. It will make a difference in whether or not our kids will be able to afford to live here as parents with children of their own. And it will matter that we gathered together to figure out how to reach our goals and realize our vision.
Over the next year or so, Portlanders can engage in the process of planning for our future strategically. Together we’ll consider trade-offs (Do we want to invest in more bike paths or roads? Should educational and healthcare institutions expand within our neighborhoods to spur job growth and increase access to schools and doctors? That kind of thing…) and decide what our priorities are and how we want to invest our public dollars.
Through this strategic process, we’re hoping for a lively discussion of the issues that are relevant to our lives and neighborhoods, and address the community’s needs and aspirations.
So join a workshop, visit the website, discuss the ideas in the handbook and fill out the survey.
Get involved. Nothing this good happens by accident.
