All of us with the City of Portland Green Building Program wish you and yours a festive and warm holiday season, however you may observe this time. We are grateful for the work we do and your support in 2011. We all look forward to working together in the coming year.
Our program has had a great year including producing the tenth annual Build It Green! Home Tour and making great strides toward the community-wide green building policy (look for it in 2012). We have a new construction waste and recycling program, we welcomed Historic Resources to our group, the Regional Green Building Hotline turned four, 16 city facilities received energy efficiency upgrades and renewables (controls, solar, signals and street lights) effecting $228,000 in savings, and a team member created a Social Sustainability Committee for the bureau. This year Portland residents, together with businesses and the City, have installed over 1 MW (megawatt) of solar electric projects, and will exceed our 2012 goal of 10 MW!
Our work is aligned with the Climate Action Plan, adopted in 2009, which states objectives and actions to reduce city and county carbon emissions 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
