It’s not often that doing something just once a week can make a big difference in your community. But traffic is funny that way. If all of us switched just one trip in the car to walking or biking we could cut way down on carbon pollution and neighborhood traffic.
It’s simple – ask yourself, “What’s the easiest car trip that I can replace by walking or biking?”
It’s healthy – A five mile bike ride (about 30 minutes at a “no sweat” pace) meets the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation for daily activity. A two mile walk gets you almost half way to the CDC’s recommendation for 10,000 steps each day.
There are a lot of opportunities – Did you know that 40% of ALL the trips made in the U.S. are less than 1.5 miles? That’s a quick “no sweat” walk or ride! How many of your trips are within walking or biking distance?
It’s fun – It’s true. You’re allowed to have fun while reducing your carbon footprint. In fact, biking and walking may be the most fun you can have while running errands and being active!
