Mission Statement
"The Drugs and Vice Division's mission is to investigate drug and vice crimes, thereby reducing crime and the fear of crime, improving the quality of life in Portland's neighborhoods and improving the relationship between the community and the police."

Overview
The Drugs and Vice Division is comprised of forty-seven personnel and operates with a budget just over four million dollars. The main offices are located in the Justice Center; however, operations are conducted throughout the metropolitan area. The Division works closely with the various Precincts and Divisions inside the Bureau in a comprehensive attempt to combat the flow of drugs and vice activity in the area. In addition, the Drugs and Vice Division works closely with federal, state, and other local law enforcement agencies to help coordinate drug and vice enforcement strategies in the region.

The personnel of the Division are a blend of sworn and non-sworn employees who are dedicated to the investigation of illegal drug and vice activities in the city of Portland. The Division integrates the information gathering and documentation process with the investigative process to ensure that all the resources of the Division are utilized and used in an efficient manner.

DEA Partnership

In 2004 the Drugs and Vice Division and the Drug Enforcement Administration entered into a collaborative effort to identify, disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations. Our mission is to seize illegal narcotics and prevent the distribution of these drugs in the Portland metropolitan area. We identify the methods drug traffickers use to bring illegal drugs into our community and interdict shipments while in route to their distribution point. By working closely with businesses, neighborhood organizations, law enforcement partners and concerned citizens we proactively target drug dealers that transport illegal narcotics into our community.

Do you want to make a drug complaint or report a possible drug house?

Citizen input is a vital tool utilized by the Division to ensure that the community's needs are being met. Using the citizen complaint process, the Division is able to track neighborhood drug and vice activity and tailors the appropriate response based on the nature of the complaint and the number of complaints received. By increasing community access and taking action based on community input, the Drugs and Vice Division has become a model for police/community partnerships.
