Resources on How to Prevent Foreclosure
My First Home is a 64 page magazine full of helpful guidance and tips on how to become a homeowner, even if you have always thought it was impossible. The magazine and its online counterpart are part of Operation H.O.M.E.'s efforts to close the minority homeownership gap. Portland Development Commission, along with the Bureau of Housing and Community Development and numerous other sponsors made My First Home possible. Click here to access the magazine on line, or call 823-3400 to find out how to get your own hard copy of the magazine.
If you or someone you know is interested in buying a home, come to one of these informational homebuyer fairs. These fairs offer information and workshops for first-time homebuyers, including information about accessing federal funding for down payment assistance.

Operation H.O.M.E. (Home Ownership & Minority Equity) is the city of Portland's effort to coordinate support for low income homeownership and especially endeavors to close the minority homeownership gap. In 2004, a report to the Portland City Council revealed that 59% of Non-Hispanic Whites in Portland were homeowners, and only an average of 34% of African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans owned their own home. The city subsequently adopted a goal of closing this gap by the year 2015. Click here to learn more about Operation H.O.M.E.
