Coming soon to Waterfront Park! - Printable Version - June 23, 2009 - 0 Comments

Portlanders will soon be enjoying a new interactive fountain south of the Burnside Bridge in Waterfront Park. Included with the pavilion and plaza area that is the new home to Saturday Market, the Bill Naito Legacy fountain will honor Portland’s immigrants with a poem etched into its steps, celebrating the diverse cultural influences that have shaped our city.

Drawing of fountainDancing water jets are distinguishing features of the pooling fountain now under construction just south of the covered pavilion. But the fountain extends under the pavilion, too! When no events are scheduled on the pavilion platform, playful water spouts will emerge from its decorative pavers.

A variety of entertainers, representing many of Portland’s earliest immigrant communities, will help dedicate the new fountain on Thursday, August 20. Stay tuned for more details!
