PROJECT OVERVIEW

Update the 1999 Mt Tabor Park Master Plan to include the Mt Tabor Park Central Maintenance Yard, Nursery, and Long Block. The Yard serves the entire park and recreation system's maintenance and horticulture needs.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Portland Portland Parks & Recreation provides routine park maintenance services from smaller decentralized facilities scattered throughout the city, supported by a central maintenance facility at Mt Tabor Yard. For well over a decade, PP&R has been requesting funding to make improvements at all of these sites.

In May 2006, City Council acknowledged the extent of the problem and directed PP&R to complete a maintenance facilities feasibility study, and develop a plan to address the situation. The assessment and associated recommendations were presented to City Council in November 2006.

On September 26, 2007, the Portland City Council unanimously adopted a resolution to accept a master planning process to support the update of the 1999 Mt Tabor Park Master Plan to include the nearly 20 contiguous acres of the Mt Tabor Park Central Maintenance Yard, Nursery, and Long Block. The updated master plan will provide a blueprint for the site that will incorporate sustainable practices, honor historically significant issues, and provide a safe and efficient work environment for PP&R employees and volunteers.
