Historical Information

The park was named after Ira Powers, owner of Powers Furniture Company, who lived in Dunthorpe. Around the time of the Depression, he and other real estate associates gave the land to the city for the extension of Terwilliger Boulevard past what is now Tryon Creek State Park, connecting Lake Oswego with where Lewis & Clark Law School now stands.
