Get involved!

Drop-in work parties are hosted the first and third Saturdays of each month, except major holiday weekends, from 8:45 AM to noon. Join us for ivy removal and trail maintenance. Meet at our Field Headquarters near the Lower Macleay trailhead before 8:45 AM. Wear weather-appropriate, grubby clothing. We'll provide gloves and tools. For more info, call 503-823-9423.

Our Mission

To restore the native habitat of Forest Park and other natural areas with efforts in removing invasive plants, youth development programs, environmental education, and community participation, promoting research, providing technical assistance, and seeking relevant societal changes.

Our Enemy
English ivy (Hedera helix) is an aggressive, invasive, introduced species. It's an alien in our midst with no natural - biologic or environmental - controls in this or many similar ecosystems. Ivy transforms natural areas into monocultures which do not provide habitat for indigenous wildlife. While it becomes an evergreen ground cover, its landscaping value is otherwise limited and creates undesirable consequences. Its widespread popularity derives primarily from its rapid growth, its suppression of any other plant growth, and its scant requirements in cultivation. These characteristics are major reasons for its devastating impact when introduced to habitats populated by native species.

A Project Statistics update...

From 1994 to January 2009, the No Ivy League has organized over 205,900 volunteer hours, rescued 57,000+ trees from the wretched grasp of English Ivy, and removed 267+ acres (over 1.15 million square feet) of ground ivy from Forest Park and the surrounding areas.

Give yourself a huge pat on the back if you've helped us over the years - we could not have done it without you!
