Graffiti Abatement Community Grant Program – Grant Applications in Process
The Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI) Graffiti Abatement Program has increased it’s focus on volunteer recruitment and development in order to aid in the abatement and prevention of graffiti in the City of Portland. As part of this effort, ONI allocated funds starting in 2010 to provide community grants that could provide community building opportunities as well as addressing graffiti abatement and prevention. Funding provided includes $42,000 in 2010 (projects to be completed by Winter 2011) and $40,000 in 2011 (projects to be completed by Winter 2012).
The goal of the program is to support community-driven improvement projects and community building opportunities with an emphasis on graffiti prevention, graffiti abatement and/or addressing locations chronically tagged with graffiti. Many projects may focus on community murals (development, implementation, repair), but the funds are also intended to be available for a broader range of improvement projects that prevent or abate graffiti and support ONI’s goals.
The grants are being administered through the seven Neighborhood District Coalition non-profits for the purpose of supporting a Graffiti Abatement Community Grant Program in their respective areas. General information on the grant criteria and guidelines is available here.
Most Coalitions are accepting applications in late 2011/early 2012 with projects to be completed by Winter 2012. View information on each Coalition’s website to determine their specific grant application deadlines and requirements. Following are the known deadlines:
