Several previous efforts have addressed how to improve citywide public involvement, including Community Connect, Bureau Innovation Project 9 and Public Involvement Task Force. These groups all recommended that an ongoing body be created to strengthen citywide public involvement practices and implement and support recommendations already made. In response, the Portland City Council created the Public Involvement Advisory Council (PIAC) in 2008. This advisory council will work collaboratively between government and community to develop and advocate for policy and best practices related to improving public involvement across all City of Portland bureaus. Please see the links below for the full reports of these past efforts. The summary document below was created by the PIAC in an effort to review and move forward past recommendations.
In March 2009, the PIAC completed this summary of past public involvement efforts.
Community Connect 2005-2008
Bureau Innovation Project 9 2005-2006
Public Involvement Task Force 2003-2004
