 Public Involvement Advisory Council

The City of Portland states that collaboration between the City and the public will result in the best policies and decisions for all of Portland.

On Feb 27 2008, City Council approved the creation of the Public Involvement Advisory Council (PIAC). Several past efforts developed recommendations regarding how to improve citywide public involvement.  The PIAC is the first standing City board on public involvement and its role is to:

  • Review and refine past recommendations regarding citywide public involvement
  • Ensure ongoing collaboration between the community, City bureaus and City Council
  • Present proposed guidelines and policy recommendations for citywide public involvement to City Council for approval
  • Provide ongoing support to city bureaus with implementation of public involvement best practices and guidelines

The Public Involvement Best Practices Program in the Office of Neighborhood Involvement provides staff support for the PIAC. The PIAC is comprised of 32 members, from both City bureaus and the community.
