Neighborhood Small Grants Program 2010

What it is?

The Neighborhood Small Grants Program provides $178,831 in small grants to neighborhood and community-based organizations.  Grants are distributed through seven neighborhood District Coalitions.  Applications are being accepted through 2 PM on Monday, November 2, 2009.

Goal of the grants program

Our goal is to provide neighborhood and community organizations an opportunity to build community, attract new and diverse members and sustain those already involved.

Criteria for Selection and Requirements

A minimum set of criteria for selection and other eligibility requirements have been established for grant making procedures for each of the seven District Coalitions.  Click here for those criteria other requirements.

Seven information sessions offered

Seven information sessions are provided for interested individuals to learn about this grant program. These sessions will help answer questions about how to apply, grant making process, selection criteria and other requirements, and the role of District Coalitions.   Click here for more information on the workshops and for a grant writing resource guide

Deadline for Proposals

Proposals will be due no later than 2:00 PM, Monday, November 2, 2009.   Applications need to be turned in to the district coalition office you are submitting an application too--NOT the Office of Neighborhood Involvement!  Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.

  • Grants are being administered through the seven neighborhood district coalitions funded by the Office of Neighborhood Involvement.

  • Applicants will need to choose a neighborhood district coalition to submit proposals to depending on whether the project benefits the residents residing within that coalition’s geographical area.

  • Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis amongst proposals submitted within each specific district coalition, not on a citywide basis.

  • Each district coalition will determine the minimum and maximum dollar range for which grant awards will be made for their geographic area.

  • Each district coalition will recruit their own grant-making committee made up of district coalition and/or neighborhood association, business community and under-represented community non-profit leaders.

Why create a neighborhood small grants program?

The grants program responds to years of input from neighborhood and community leaders for increased direct resources to neighborhood associations and other community-based groups working on local neighborhood projects.  City Council first approved the funding as part of the Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s fiscal year 2006-07 budget.

Summary of the first three years of grants:  2006 through 2009

We've summarized the first three yeas of the grant program to evaluate if we're meeting our goal to provide neighborhood and community organizations an opportunity to build community, atract new and diverse members and sustain those already involved. In addition our goal is to ensure we equitably distribute funds throughout the City, fund a diverse range of organizations, and ensure projects engage a diverse range of constituencies and population groups.  Click here to review summary information.
