About the Council Crest Tower Project
The Council Crest Tower - located in Council Crest Park - was built in the 1950’s and originally used for television broadcasting. The Bureau of Technology Services currently maintains the 439-foot tower which is used for supporting communications for emergency services and homeland security.
A 2005 structural evaluation revealed that the tower is stressed over its design capacity and has significant corrosion. No additional equipment can be installed on the tower. Further study showed it would be more cost effective to replace the existing tower than to repair it.
A new tower will be constructed next to the existing tower over the course of 2008-2010. During construction there will be times that the road to Council Crest Park will be closed to make room for a crane and for public safety. The new tower will be the same height as the existing tower.
