Portland's the North American Host City for World Environment Day 2013. As part of this celebration, each year the International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment is organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer and Nikon Corporation.

This year students are invited to produce original artworks focusing on water as the source of all life on Earth.

In addition to a First Prize and Second Prizes ($1,000 first prize; plaques; and other honors), there will be a "Portland's Best" prize awarded to two local students! North American winners announced on Earth Day, April 22.
