This second annual Willamette River event, benefiting Willamette Riverkeeper, is a celebration of our river – including the recreation it offers as well as the restoration it has undergone in recent years. The goal is to encourage people to “get into the river” and support its preservation and healthy development as a recreational resource. And to have a whale of a good time in the process!

Open to all ages, the event begins with a parade where floaters gather near the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge, then carry or wear their flotation devices across the bridge and march south along Waterfront Park to the put-in, the beach area beneath the Marquam Bridge.

This year The Big Float will feature a barge with live music on the east side of the Marquam Bridge that will accompany floaters as they cross. A Great Crossing celebration will be held after the float, with live music by local bands, food carts, exhibits and sponsor booths and a children's area sponsored by the Grand Ronde Tribes, including Native American crafts.
