Rose Quarter Stakeholder Advisory Committee
After thoroughly reviewing and considering all the applications we received, I am pleased to announce the roster of the Rose Quarter Stakeholder Advisory Committee.
This committee will play a major role in the reshaping of Portland’s Rose Quarter and the future of one of Portland’s most recognizable icons—the Memorial Coliseum.
The committee will advise the Portland City Council on a Rose Quarter redevelopment vision within the context of previous planning efforts. Starting this fall, the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) will develop criteria for evaluating ideas and proposals for the renovation or adaptive reuse of the Coliseum. The committee will begin reviewing those ideas in late fall and submit its top recommendations to City Council in the spring of 2010. By fall of 2010, the SAC will provide feedback on development plans for the Rose Quarter area.
My goal was to create a 20-person committee. I am humbled by the quantity and quality of applications we received, a testament to the fact that the Rose Quarter and the Memorial Coliseum are beloved community assets, with an even brighter future. From the 120 applicants, we have put together an incredibly strong 32-member committee that is a true cross-section of community interests.
I expect the Rose Quarter to create jobs, integrate with surrounding neighborhoods and the adjacent Lloyd District, and meet aggressive sustainability and planning goals. It is an ambitious charge, but I am certain that with these stakeholders’ help—and with robust public input from Portlanders—we can meet it.
The first Stakeholder Advisory Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 15 from 5-7 pm at City Hall, Council Chambers. Further information will be posted to mayorsamadams.com.
