Volunteer as a Youth Corps Coach

 

HAVE FUN AND HELP YOUTH THIS SUMMER!

 

WANTED: Caring adults to serve as volunteer Coaches to accompany local students on real-life learning experiences this summer.

 

A Great Coach for the Summer of 2009 will:

 

  • Be willing to share experiences from your personal and professional development with a consistent group of 10 youth. There will be 2 to 4 adults for each “team” of 15 to 20 youth.

     

    Dedicate one consistent weekday each week for four to six weeks to accompany your team during staff-supported real-life learning experiences, visiting career and college sites

     

    Help students understand and reflect on their learning

     

    Participate in a pre-program volunteer training

     

    Pass a criminal background check

    The Portland Youth Corps and Ninth Grade Counts are partnering for a new initiative connecting students entering 9th grade with summer career exposure and college visits.  This opportunity will be linked to academic support  programs the students are participating in – all toward the goal of significantly increasing the graduation rate over the next 4 years!

     

    Volunteer training: June 12, 12:00 - 4:00pm — Most of the 15 programs involved begin June 22
