Downtown trip tips

Emergency sewer repair has W Burnside eastbound CLOSED at 11th

The Bureau of Environmental Services has detoured both lanes of eastbound traffic while working on an emergency sewer repair on W Burnside between 11th and 10th avenues.  Use SW Alder at 19th to avoid delays.  Otherwise, traffic is detoured on SW 11th to Stark around the closure.  At this time (Thursday, 11/20/09) the work is nearly done and it's hoped the street will be reopened by Friday.

Crane lift to close motor vehicle lane and bike lane on Broadway, Taylor to Salmon, on Friday

Axis Crane will be making a lift to 947 SW Broadway on Friday, November 20, which will require closure of the right travel lane and the bike lane as well as the removal of on-street parking on the west side of the street and closure of the west sidewalk.  The work will take place from 7:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Bridges

  • Morrison Bridge project has closed ramp from Naito
Construction of a new path for bicyclists and pedestrians across the Morrison Bridge should be completed by mid-December. Anew shared, 15-foot wide path is being added on the south side of the bridge.  During construction, the bridge's six traffic lanes have been narrowed and the far right eastbound lane is closed. The on-ramp to the bridge from SW Naito Parkway will remain closed until the project completion, while the contractor widens the sidewalk and relocates storm water catch basins.  The right eastbound lane on the bridge on-ramp from SW Alder is closed for similar work. During construction, the south sidewalk on the bridge will be closed but the north sidewalk will remain open. The $1.9 million project includes funds from the Federal Highway Administration and Multnomah County. The City of Portland contributed funds to the project's design, along with the county and federal government.
