About Portland Recovery

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) was signed into law by President Obama on February 17. The Act contains $288 billion in tax cuts, $144 billion in revenue sharing to states, and $357 billion in investment in infrastructure, health care, housing, energy, scientific research and more.

The Portland City Council is committed to ensuring that ARRA funding is used to maximize job creation, to stimulate our economy and to provide support to families and businesses impacted by the downturn. The city of Portland will receive approximately $30 million in directly allocated “formulaARRA funding. Mayor Adams and City Council are also working closely with our local partners and state agencies to secure additional funding through ARRA competitive grants.

In addition to providing funding through federal programs, this new law includes several tax provisions that may impact residents. The Small Business Administration has provided a summary of how the law will impact small business owners.
