Regional Public Safety Training Center
The Portland Police Bureau (PPB), along with other metro area public safety agencies, has identified a need for a consolidated public safety training center to conduct all of its post-basic academy training. Many other regional public safety agencies are facing similar limitations on training facilities and have expressed preliminary interest in partnering with the City of Portland to construct and operate a new training facility.
The City has identified a 320-acre parcel of land in unincorporated Columbia County near the Scappoose airport that may be able to house the training center. The City is now in the process of developing a project management team that can successfully guide the City through Phase I of the project, including development of a detailed project work plan, site evaluation and acquisition, and successful negotiation of a project governance plan with other regional public safety agencies (with accompanying intergovernmental agreements.)
