October 31, 2013 | KGW.com-- City leaders spent Thursday morning encouraging the community to support local businesses affected by Tuesday’s water main break in downtown Portland.
Commissioners Nick Fish and Steve Novick had breakfast at the Blue Collar Baking Company, which was shut down for two days following the water main break.
“When they lose a few days of business it really hurts and it really matters,” said Commissioner Fish. “The rest of the community needs to come and rally and help folks.”
Warren Becker owns the Blue Collar Baking Company. He said he had to throw out a full month’s ingredients after losing power Tuesday.
“Yesterday I had to go to the store and spend a quick $1,000 just to get me through the rest of the week,” Becker said. “I’ve got rent due tomorrow, and next week Friday is payday for my staff.”
Commissioner Novick said crews were working as quickly as possible to complete repairs and reopen Burnside. READ FULL ARTICLE
