December, 19, 2012 | oregonlive.com-- When John Kitzhaber said he was looking forward to “a robust discussion with the Legislature” on sentencing and prison costs, I assumed his dry sense of humor had gotten the best of him.

 

You mean, like the lightning round the governor had with the peanut gallery on Nike’s tax bill?

 

Or the free-wheeling conversation Kitzhaber had with legislative leadership before declaring Oregon’s death penalty “a perversion of justice”?

 

As I wrote two weeks ago, the governor is dominating the field because he’s utilizing the power of his office, not asking the Legislature for advice. It will be instructive to watch how he tempers that approach in dealing with CONTINUE
