Which Council Member is Responsible for What?
The City of Portland has a commission form of government. This means there is no city manager and each Council member is a "commissioner-in-charge" of a number of bureaus and acts as the City's representative or liaison to a number of committees or organizations. These responsibilities are called the commissioner's "portfolio." Follow the link above to find out which bureaus and liason duties of each Council member and the Mayor.
About City Council and its Meetings:
The Council holds regular weekly sessions at 9:30 am and 2:00 pm on Wednesdays and on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 pm, if there is sufficient business. On the third Wednesday of the month, the pm session is held at 6:00 pm. Council meetings are held in Council Chambers City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Ave. Council meetings can be viewed live online during their regularly scheduled times.
City Council Meeting Agenda:
The Council Agenda is the weekly list of items to come before the City Council. The agenda is available after 4:00 pm each Friday for the following week's Council meetings.
