| The International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP) was founded in 1913 and is based in The Hague. Its diverse membership includes individuals and organizations from over 60 countries. The principal aim of the IFHP is to raise general awareness and professional knowledge about housing, planning, the environment and related fields, with a view to improving housing and planning practice throughout the world. The Federation believes that comparison is a valuable tool for learning. Comparison of similar issues in different geographical, economic or cultural contexts may cast a totally new light on the approach to a particular problem.
The IFHP holds two major events each year; the Spring Conference and the Fall Congress. For more information visit www.ifhp.org or contact the IFHP Secretariat at info@ifhp.org. The Portland Bureau of Planning works alongside citizens to create long-range plans and strategies to guide Portland's future. The bureau directs its efforts to manage growth, to promote livability and economic health, and to preserve Portland's heritage and natural environment. In all its efforts, the bureau puts into practice the belief that outcomes must reflect the values and desires expressed by the community throughout the planning process. Visit www.portlandonline.com/planning for more information about our projects and activities. The American Planning Association is a nonprofit public interest and research organization that provides leadership in the development of vital communities by advocating excellence in community planning, promoting education and citizen empowerment, and providing the tools and support necessary to effect positive change.
