My colleague Commissioner Nick Fish is missing the Wednesday Council hearings this week, but with an excellent absence note. He is being honored in New York for his work with Common Ground, a leader in development of supportive housing and other proven strategies to end homelessness. Details here on his site. All Portlanders are well served by Nick's dedication and history of volunteering his time and talents.
I note with awe that single tickets to the event celebrating the awards run $1,000 and up. The most expensive ticket I've purchased to a fundraiser dinner in Portland is $250, and most run $150 or less. Yet another reason I'm glad I live in Portland. Nonprofit workers and government staff here work hard to stretch every dollar and volunteer hour donated.
