Update 4/10/10 4:45 p.m. - Kari Chisholm of Mandate Media gently informed me that the googlefiber domain is not owned by Google. So there is a question as to whether this is a legitimate part of Google's decision-making process, or not. I will ask staff to check into it more on Monday.
Update 4/12/10 - Staff agrees with Kari, we don't believe this is a legitimate component of the decision-making process.
