Please read this interesting and informative article in the In Portland section of the 7/2/9 Oregonian, by Joe Fitzgibbon. I was happy to spend 45 minutes talking with Joe in my office, as he researched his topic. I first met Joe when he covered one of my early volunteer projects, the Courtyard Native Plant Garden at Markham Elementary School. That garden has since been converted back to active uses, but my respect for Joe's diligence in thorough research and accurate, constructive journalism remains.
This article features five Neighborhood Associations - Cully, Woodlawn, St. Johns, Powellhurst-Gilbert, and South Portland. Each gives a good snapshot of some of the great work being done by neighborhood volunteers all over Portland.
