Last Friday, I attended the Opening Ceremony for the new heavy-rail train from Wilsonville to Beaverton, Westside Express Service or WES. It uses existing commercial tracks, and allows commuters to bypass Highway 217 in a trip that takes only 27 minutes from end to end. Speakers at the event included Congressman David Wu, Washington County Board Chair Tom Brian, Metro President David Bragdon, and others. It was very cold sitting listening to speeches for close to an hour, but well worth it in taking the time to celebrate the completion of the project. State Representative Mitch Greenlick, former State Representative Greg Macpherson, and many others weathered the chill to participate. Congratulations to all involved.
I'd love to see commuter rail to Salem as the next project tackled.
