Older adults living on a fixed income will remain in their homes at Hawthorne East.
Northwest Housing Alternatives (NHA) recently purchased the affordable apartment building in Southeast Portland. NHA has been serving our community for over 30 years by investing in low-income families, seniors, and people with special needs.
Hawthorne East is home to 74 older adults who enjoy access to convenient public transit, fresh and healthy food, and a vibrant inner Southeast community.
The purchase of Hawthorne East supports the City’s 11x13 preservation campaign by securing the property’s affordability for 60 years. In 2008, we launched the 11x13 campaign when we identified 11 buildings that were at risk of losing their federal subsidies by the end of 2013. With our partners, we have preserved affordable homes for more than 650 vulnerable Portlanders.
NHA will work to revitalize and rehabilitate Hawthorne East to support the building’s long-term sustainability. A Residence Service program provides education opportunities, financial workshops, nursing visits, and other services to promote the success, stability and independence of all those who call Hawthorne East home.
