POL Government Elected Officials Commissioner Nick Fish
Helensview Community Garden Opening - March 11, 2013

The grand opening of the Helensview Community Garden was a huge success!

Nick was proud to join community members, Portland Parks & Recreation partners, and City Commissioner Amanda Fritz in the sunshine on Saturday to inaugurate the newest community garden in Portland.

Nick shared with the crowd that the event was momentous — “it’s two firsts and a last.”

Helensview is the first community garden in partnership with the Parkrose School District, it’s the first community garden in the Sumner Neighborhood, and it is the last garden in our 1,000 Gardens initiative.

Special thanks to Scott Somohano, Chair of the Sumner Association of Neighbors and the champion of this park, Helensview School Principal Kris Persson, and all the community members and partners who made this garden possible.
