Warblers and rabbits and elk, oh my! - December 6, 2012

They are just a few of the animals found during the first BioBlitz in Portland’s Forest Park.

A Bioblitz is a 24-hour study led by experts to survey a designated piece of land and document its wildlife.

Organized and funded by Portland Parks & Recreation, Portland's first-ever BioBlitz was spearheaded by John Deshler, the City of Portland’s wildlife expert.

Deshler, with a team of 31 wildlife experts and 144 eager volunteers, set out for their 24-hour excursion of the beautiful 5,100-acre Forest Park.  Together, they found a total of 248 species, including 99 animals and 148 different types of insects.

Portland's BioBlitz will be featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Oregon Field Guide, and is available online for viewing as well!
