A New Home for the South Waterfront Osprey - December 3, 2012

On November 16 Portland Parks and Recreation, with the support of various community groups and businesses, relocated the 8-ton steel platform pole which houses the South Waterfront’s Osprey nest to its new home.

In the move not a single stick was lost from the nest.

The osprey couple has been in the South Waterfront for the last five years, and installed their nest on the steel pole created by Zidell Marine Co. for the Osprey just 200 feet from its now-permanent residence.

The osprey will be welcomed back to their home in March, when they are expected to arrive back from their 3,000-mile migration from Mexico.

You can keep an eye on the nest by visiting the Center for Conservation Biology Osprey Nest Watch’s website where it is registered as nest #304.
