Giving Tuesday - November 27, 2012

We have feasted and given thanks, and bargained for the best deals - now it’s time to give back.

The mission of #GivingTuesday is to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support non-profit organizations.

#GivingTuesday was initiated by New York’s 92nd street Y, partnering with the United Nations Foundation and other amazing influencers to make #GivingTuesday a reality.

But the most important part of the whole project is you. Get involved and give back. Support the non-profit that calls to you, that will help someone else.

In Portland, there is vast need for your support of organizations like JOIN, which helps homeless individuals transition from homelessness to permanent housing. Or provide a hot meal to anyone in need at O’Bryant Square at Potluck in the Park. If you want to give back to Mother Nature, try Forest Park Conservancy which protects and fosters the ecological health ofForest Park.

If you need some help on where to give, try the Willamette Week Give! Guide, which highlights some of the best mission-driven non-profits in our community.
