Portland fun for every season - September 21, 2012

This week's Portland Tribune (September 20 issue) has a special insert, sharing their list of 101 things to do this fall and winter.

A few of their recommendations caught our eye:

Portland Children's Museum - a must-see for your trip to the zoo, or any other day.  Hands-on activities including a shadow room, moldable clay, and story time daily.

Lan Su Chinese Garden - even in the downtown bustle, the Chinese Garden offers serenity and peace.  You can also sign up for calligraphy classes, or play mah jong.

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden - this hidden Portland Parks & Recreation garden boasts seven acres of waterfalls, winding paths, and yes, rhododendrons!  No admission this fall and winter.

Hoyt Arboretum - this PP&R gem has just gone through some spring cleaning, with new path and garden signs.  Enjoy over 180 acres of green space, and 12 miles of trails.

Pittock Mansion - Portland's premier historic home sits high in the west hills, and is transformed into a holiday wonderland each winter, with period Christmas decorations, trees, and lights.  Come for the history, stay for the view.

Roller skating at Mt. Scott Community Center - we all enjoy the chicken dance or the hokey pokey on roller skates - what better place to join in the fun than this beloved community center?

Music lessons at the Multnomah Arts Center - have you always wanted to learn to play piano?  Bang on the drums?  Rock the guitar?  This fall and winter, the Multnomah Arts Center is offering the perfect music class for you.

Swimming at PP&R pools - summer may be over, but you can still enjoy the indoor pools at Mt. Scott Community Center and the Southwest Community Center.  You can pretend it's still summer vacation on your way down the slide.

Honeybee Hikes - Leach Botanical Garden offers guided hikes for children ages 2 to 6 each Wednesday morning.  You can enjoy this beautiful garden along with your little one.
