School starts next week, and Schoolhouse Supplies is handing out backpacks and school supplies to needy children throughout the metro area!

Beginning September 5-7, volunteers from 28 local businesses will be personally handing out backpacks to 14,233 Portland Public School students.

The program targets schools that have 65% or more of their students eligible for free or reduced lunch programs.  Since 2003, Schoolhouse Supplies has given away more than 72,000 backpacks!

The Schoolhouse Supplies "Tools for Schools" backpack giveaway program is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year, and 2012 is the first time in Tools for Schools history that 100% of all eligible schools in Portland will receive backpacks.
