City Council approves Charles Jordan Community Center - June 6, 2012

By David Nguyen

Portland City Council voted unanimously today to rename Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R)’s University Park Community Center in honor of Charles Jordan.

Charles Jordan spent 10 years as Portland’s first African American City Commissioner, and 14 years as our Parks Director. Jordan changed Portland’s landscape - under his leadership, 44 new parks and natural areas were added to Portland’s parks system.

Parks will host a ceremony on July 22, 3:30 pm to formally acknowledge the re-dedication of the Community Center. The event is also a way for the community to commemorate Charles Jordan’s remarkable achievements.
