To celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Great Blue Heron as the city of Portland's official city bird, Mayor Sam Adams read a proclamation at City Council yesterday, naming June 4 - 10, 2012 as Great Blue Heron Week in the city of Portland.

The Audubon Society and the Intertwine Alliance are celebrating the Great Blue Heron and the release of Wild in the City: Exporing the Intertwine, a field guide to our area's parks, natural areas, and trails.

Audubon and the Intertwine are hosting a number events over the next week, including a Pedalpalooza Ride and a Ross Island Regatta to celebrate our city's winged star.
