Neighborhoods Garden at Lynwood Friends Church Breaks Ground - May 15, 2012

Story by Abby Warren

In three short months, a combined-effort between Outgrowing Hunger and We Are Oregon/Neighborhood United Food Group has gone from introductory "hello's" to a successful groundbreaking on what will become a 5,000 sq ft garden!

On Sunday, May 6th, neighbors brought tools, snacks, hula-hoops and energetic hands to turn the field behind the Lynwood Friends Church on SE 162nd into an area ready for growing season.

This cooperative gardening effort, where tasks and harvest will be distributed  to participants according to their desires and abilities, will provide needed access in an area that lacks healthful food options. Since the nearest supermarket in the area closed its doors over a year ago, neighbors have had limited access to fresh foods.

Register to become a part of this innovative, important growing effort!
