Volunteers needed this summer for Portland's rose gardens - May 4, 2012

By Sophia Kecskes

Calling all rose connoisseurs! Portland Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteers to help out at our community rose gardens this spring and summer.

The International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park needs volunteers to help lead tours for visitors and work with PP&R’s rose curator to maintain the beauty of the garden.

New volunteers are encouraged to attend one of these training sessions which cover garden preparation, giving tours and deadheading (pruning spent blooms). Meet at the Information Kiosk next to the miniature roses at the International Rose Test Garden in Washington Park at 9 am on May 22, May 29, or June 5.

The Peninsula Park Rose Garden is also seeking volunteers to help deadhead roses; volunteers are encouraged to attend an upcoming training session. Orientations start at 9 am at the fountain on June 6, June 8, June 13, and June 15.
