Parks employee receives Presidential honor - March 6, 2012

By David Nguyen

Portland Parks & Recreation Sports Management Supervisor André Ashley has been selected as a ‘Let’s Move!' and Physical Activity Champion of Change, as part of President Obama’s Winning the Future initiative.

The initiative honors people who are doing great work to increase access to physical activity for youth in their community.

The event will be held on March 22 in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building at the White House. André will participate in a discussion of the work he and his team are doing.  He’ll also meet and speak with agency representatives and White House staff.

Nick praises André and notes that his leadership “guarantees that Portland Parks & Recreation offers many ways to stay active and healthy.”

PP&R’s sports programs receive support from friends and community partners like Nike. The organization helps pay for program jerseys and other sports equipment.
